Professional wrestler Salim Zhambeev, who decided to get the one-year-old lioness, performs in the under 74 kilogrammes (11.7 stone) weight category and says his new pet helps him work on certain moves. He was criticised by animal lovers after it was revealed that in order to make it safe to wrestle with the lioness, her frontal claws had been removed. The big catís current behaviour is rather friendly and she seems to be having a great time in her new home. Despite all the precautions, vets said that claw removal does not guarantee that the lioness would stay friendly towards humans all the time. However, it does also mean that she will never be able to survive in her natural habitat. Footage of their interaction shows that Mr Zhambeev and his family treat the wild creature as a home pet in their house in the city of Nalchik in south-western Russia's Kabardino-Balkar Republic. It was reported that in order to maintain such a dangerous cat at home, the athlete needs to feed it five to seven kilogrammes (11 to 15 lbs) of meat daily. The lioness has her own bedroom in the house, which was branded as completely inappropriate by experts like vet Eduard Meshin. He said: "I truly recommend the owners bring the lioness to one of the closest zoos, it would get a much better treatment there. There is still no guarantee that the lion would stay the same when it grows up and wonít hurt its owners." (ends)
